Sigi Bußinger: The Quest for "Animal Light"
or "a wood sculptor discovers light"

The studio of Munich light and performance artist Sigi Bußinger is situated in a former greenhouse on the idyllic banks of the River Isar .

A sphere of light made of 1000 bottles and a huge archway constructed of blue recycling bins welcomes the visitor to this area where, during the last fifteen years, an international community of artists has established itself.

Maybe it is the close vicinity to lighting manufacturer OSRAM and to the Munich Zoo that has inspired this wood sculptor by profession to undertake his "quest for animal light".

In his works the versatile artist concentrates on the understanding of the essential nature of an animal. To do so, he will sometimes even dress up as "his" animal.

Mythology and fairy tales accompany his artistic process that - sometimes only after a number of years -will result in a light object such as his most recent work, "the rainbow serpent dreaming", a hollow crystal of light that can be entered and thus allows the contemplator also to bathe in the coloured light of the rainbow .
